Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje ended her three-month defiance and stepped down as Leader of the Opposition in the state but not before hitting out at the party high command for humiliating her and alleging that the party lacked democracy.
56-year-old Raje submitted her resignation to senior party leader L K Advani hours before a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Board which was to take up the issue.
The resignation letter was presented at the Parliamentary Board meeting by party president Rajnath Singh and it was accepted, senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar told reporters after over an hour-long meeting.
Later in the evening,Raje met BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee along with her MP-son Dushyant and said “I have sent the letter to all the 11 members (of Parliamentary Board) because they were the ones who have taken the decision (on her resignation). I have written to them respectfully.”
She refused to divulge the content of the letter, saying “I have always been a disciplined member of the party and will always remain one. Whatever happened is something between me and the party.”
Sources close to Raje, however, said that in the letter she had accused the party high command of humiliating her by dealing with her through the media.
She has alleged the party lacked democracy in its functioning and that there was no accountability.
She also charged the party did not encourage women’s rise in the party.
