Even after the Crime Branch sought courts permission to put the vehicle,in which officers Hemant Karkare,Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar had been travelling before they were shot dead during 26/11 attacks,to use again,it is not being released by the Motor Transport department which fears repairs would amount to destruction of evidence. Following the attack, the Toyota Qualis (MH-01-BA-569) had been under wraps in front of the Unit 1 office of the Crime Branch at the Mumbai police headquarters. The vehicle was sent to us by the Crime Branch for repairs. However,it is still being kept in the same condition by us. We feel that at any time during the judicial process, the courts could want to see the bullet holes. If repaired,it would not be possible to furnish such evidence. So we are not releasing it to any office yet, said DCP (motor transport) K Y Joshi.
