  • With the Tatas gradually dismantling their machinery at Singur, most vendors have decided to move the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) to get their investment refunded.

Around 21 companies manufacturing ancillary parts had taken land on lease from the WBIDC to set up their establishments in the vendor park, adjacent to the small car factory.

“We had leased seven acres from the WBIDC and 95 per cent of our work had been done. We will write to the corporation stating that we would like to return the land and get a refund for the same,” said Udayan Banerjee, ED, Sharda Motor Industries.

Till date, none of the vendor companies have received any official word from the Tatas about their relocation to Sanand in Gujarat where the Nano car factory will be set up.

Many vendor companies, including Rucha, Mayur Industries and Endurance, said before taking any step they are waiting for the meeting with Tata Motors authorities to be held at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai on October 16.

Sources said the vendors’ meet will begin with the Tata authorities addressing the Nano car vendors at 10:30 am. This will be followed by an open meeting with vendors from all companies.

“We will move the WBIDC. But we are waiting for directives from the Tatas on Thursday,” said a source from Endurance Technologies Pvt Ltd.

Mayur Enterprise, which had leased 1.8 acres land at Singur and was supposed to supply sunwisers and bellows for the small car, plans to write a letter to the corporation expressing its willingness to return the leased plot.

    ... contd.
