Vet university girls protest lack of facilities in hostel

The agitated girl students of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) raised slogans and complained against the university officials about the lack of hostel facilities on late Monday night.

The students also demanded a new warden claiming that the existing warden was hardly ever available to listen to the complaints of students and wanted a faculty member of GADVASU to take the charge. The charter of demands prepared by these students indicates less number of of rooms in the hostel because of which students have to share rooms. They also complain that the generator set provided in the hostel is seldom used. There are no corridors inside the hostel premises which makes students pass through grassy fields, which in monsoon season is dangerous.

Dr K S Sandhu,Dean Students Welfare,GADVASU,said,“I talked to the girls last night and have assured them of meeting their demands at the earliest. The students can use generator set at any time of the day provided they are ready to bear the fuel cost. The area surrounding the premises will be maintained and so will be the washrooms.”

He however added,“We have no solution as far as the rooms are concerned and the girls will have to share their rooms. Our old hostel had a capacity of 75 girls and the new can house about 32 girls. This new block was created to adjust the rush. We have 16 ICAR nominees for Master’s programme and around 140 girls to house. We will be constructing a new hostel soon”
