Vibhavari Apte-Joshi,a Puneite, has made her mark in Bollywood and that too in style. She has sung for Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan in the latest Bollywood flick Guzaarish by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her song Mazo Saiba… during the climax of the movie has been well received by the audience too.

The song was not only a big opportunity for Vibhavari,a resident of Shrikrupa Apartments,Sadashiv Peth, but has brought her some offers from the industry. The best compliment, however, came from Aishwarya herself who told her during the music launch function that she was happy to get Vibhavari’s beautiful voice for her in the film. “It is actually my pleasure that I could sing for the beautiful actress,” Vibhavari says

The opportunity came her way unexpectedly. Bhansali who himself is the music director of the film had heard Vibhavari while she was performing in a music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Aajcha Awaaj that was aired on Zee Marathi channel last year. “He had heard my song Maze Man Tuze Zale… He called me and asked me to meet him.”

She landed at the Ava recording studio in Mumbai in the next two days and even learnt the song from Bhansali’s assistant Shail Hada. “I was really nervous when I met Bhansali sir,but he made me very comfortable and said he liked my voice and wanted to offer me a song that he thought was suited to my voice… He recorded the song the next week and then I was off to a tour to the US. Though Bhansali sir had told me that he thought the take was okay,I was still nervous. When I came back,he re-recorded the song in April this year. This time the tune was same, but the treatment was different.”

“It is a Konkani – Hindi song. The pronunciation was not that difficult for me as I had sung old Konkani songs in many of my shows. However, the experience of learning the song from Bhansali sir was amazing. He emphasised on expression and asked me to think of the character’s mindset as it had to suit the situation.”

The overall experience was overwhelming for Vibhavari,as besides learning nuances of playback singing, she could also talk a lot about Marathi music with Bhansali. “He is very fond of Marathi music. I was surprised that he knew many Marathi classic songs of Shreenivas Khale and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. He used to ask me to sing these songs during recording.”

Vibhavari is well-known to the Maharashtra audiences as she has sung in many live music concerts across the state. She has sung for eight-ten Marathi films too. Her husband Anand,a software engineer with a private company, has been very supportive to her throughout the journey.

She said it was a dream come true when she could meet Amitabh Bachchan during the music launch function. “It was also attended by Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. I found them very down to earth and decent. The high point was I could see the first screening of the film with them on November 17,two days before the release.”
