On being alerted by the Mohali police, the Patiala police swung into action and started monitoring her (Shelja) mobile phone tower locations.

The entry and exit routes of the village were sealed by the police teams.

One of the abductors reportedly hailed from the same village and halted at an acquaintance’s residence along with the woman. The ‘acquaintance’ in question,Nishan Singh, was later rounded up and quizzed by the police.

“The three accused were hiding in village Kauli on the Patiala-Chandigarh highway. They were arrested around 5:30 pm after the village was cordoned off and a house-to-house search was initiated. Shelja was safely released,” said Patiala SSP Arpit Shukla while adding that a .315 bore country-made pistol was also recovered from the accused.
