Gate No. 2 at the Punjab Agricultural University was closed to commuters following a group clash on the campus on Tuesday.

A clash between two groups of students this evening turned Punjab Agricultural University into a virtual fortress. Vigil on all its gates was heightened, vehicles inside PAU were checked and daily walkers without identity cards were turned back. The main roads of the campus were blocked with barricades and passersbys were allowed only after due questioning.

The Estate Officer, Dr Gurkirpal Singh informs, “The Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering, informed us about this clash after which we increased security on campus.” Meanwhile, it has been learnt that an old rivalry between Jasjit Brar, a super final student of College of Engineering, and Jagjit Singh, a drop-out from the College of Agriculture, turned into a fight today evening when Brar and his friend saw Jagjit entering into Students Home alone.

It is learnt that Brar and his friend beat up Jagjit Singh, who then began collecting his group. Tension on the campus, especially in the boys hostel, still prevails as both the groups that clashed today are known mischief makers. Boys from both the groups are currently on the run.

Dr D Grover, officiating Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering, when contacted, informed, “I have called up Jasjit’s father and told him about today’s clash. We are concerned about the security of the boy too and while we have no information as to where the boy is, we have informed his father. I will look into the details of the matter tomorrow morning,” informed the Dean.

Meanwhile for the evening walkers it was tough day today for they were not allowed to walk inside the campus without their identity card which Dr Gurkirpal Singh claims, “is meant to be carried while on walk.”
