  • Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh was today booked by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act and charges of cheating, forgery, tampering of official records and criminal conspiracy. Former local bodies minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust Jugal Kishore and former secretary of Vidhan Sabha, Nachhatar Singh Mavi were also booked with him.

Vigilance sources revealed that the former CM would not be arrested for now, as has a blanket bail from the High Court. However, the other accused would be arrested soon.

This is the third case registered by the state Vigilance Bureau against Amarinder after the Akali-BJP combine came to power in 2007. The earlier two cases included the Ludhiana Improvement Trust Scam and the disproportionate assets case.

Sources said the case (FIR No 3) was registered at the SS1, Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Mohali, on the reference of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the IPC and PC Act. Other accused in the case include Tara Singh, former under secretary in the Vidhan Sabha; Subhash Chander and Vicky Sharma of Veer Colonisers and some unknown persons and government officials.
