Vinay puts Punjab in driver’s seat

Chandigarh:Left-arm spinner Vinay Chaudhary played a stellar role in helping Punjab restrict Saurashtra to 207 for 8 in 95 overs on the first day of the four-day match in Cooch Behar Trophy played in Rajkot on Saturday. The wily spinner took four wickets to help the Punjab outfit get on top. Kunal was the top scorer for Saurashtra with a superb innings of 89 runs but he missed out on a well-deserved century by 11 runs. S Patel chipped in with useful 39 runs. Kunal put on 72 runs for the fourth wicket with Parveen. However, the Saurashtra team lost the plot once Parveen was out for 21. Right-arm leg spinner Sandeep Singh also bowled well and took two wickets.

Football Academy set up at Rohtak

Chandigarh:To encourage and develop players from Haryana, Panasonic Football Academy has been set up at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak by Panasonic India in association with Haryana Football Association. It will be a residential training facility where the players will be trained for three years. The academy will start functioning from December 15 to November 30, 2015. Appreciating the effort, Deepinder Singh Hooda, who is the president of Haryana Football Association, said, "Haryana strives to provide equal opportunities to its people to take part in sports. We truly hope to develop, maintain and optimally utilize high quality football infrastructure and encourage, train and support footballers to join national and international tournaments in large numbers." The academy will allow admission to a maximum of 30 children within the age group of 13 to 16 years. They will be trained in two training sessions every day.
