The classic cars at the Pune Festival 2008 - Car Fiesta were flagged off on Sunday at 11 am from the Centre for Police Research, Pashan by Major General Noble Thamburaj.
The first to leave the stable was the Wolseley Landaulet 1908, owned by Abbas Jasdanwalla. It was the oldest car in the rally. There were 54 beauties in all. Prominent among them were the Mercedes Benz 230 SL 1966 belonging to Fali Dhondy and both, the Mercedes Benz C-200 2008 and the Hummer H-3 2008, owned by Subhash Sanas. Yohan Poonawalla also showcased his Bentley Flying Spur 2007 and Rolls Royce Phantom 2005.
An enthusiastic crowd turned up on Sunday morning to greet the participants. Aditya Bharitiya's Dodge Charger 1972 seemed to attract a lot of attention. Poonawalla's Jaguar E-type 1975 was another favourite of the crowd. Red in colour and stunning to look at, it used to be an icon of the 1960's motoring. The aggressive slatted grill and flared wheel arches were eye-catching and raised a collective gasp among the audience.
The route of the rally was marked from the Centre for Police Research, on to Pashan road, past the NCL-ARDE gate, to Chandni Chowk and finally to the NDA gate before taking a U turn and returning on the same route to the starting point.
