Emboldened by the state Director General of Police B S Bassi's defence of cops partying on an offshore casino in Goa, "party-going" senior police officials in Goa have now said that visiting casinos is like going to temples and churches.

"My DGP has already said whether you go to temple, Church, Restaurant or casino, these places are not illegal. His answer is like hitting a six against all wild allegations that people are making against us," Superintendent of Police (North) Bosco George said.

George also reiterated that "going to casinos is as similar as going to temples and churches."

George was one amongst the four SPs, two deputy superintendents of police and a police inspector, whose controversial party on off shore casino had hit the media headlines in Goa.

Context is keyBy: Ashwin | 23-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward From a journalistic point of view, the context in which the Goa DGP said 'visiting casinos is like going to temples and churches' is the key in this story. Goa is a tourist place and except for its population, for all visitors, its famed temples and churches are 'tourist spots' to be visited for their architectural majesty and historic past. So, in this context, what's the difference between the casino and these 'places of worship'?
A christian's view of temples, Sonnya ghee must support itBy: Maulana J L Nehru | 19-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward It is worth noting that it is "Bosco George" who thinks temples are like casions. After all, India is being ruled by an import of same religious persuasion as Bosco, hence he has the right to have and voice such opinions about temples. Hail Jessus Merry Holly Virgin, save the souls of pagans.
Ignorance is better hiddenBy: Jayadevan | 06-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward Oye, praji, sardar ko chrithi samajtha hain kya? Fisr go to school and learn to read full sentences in English. Then you can come back to your agenda of looking for opportunities to bash "imported" religions. This same "Bosco George" also included churches in his comparison. In case you didn't understand what he was saying, he was stressing the fact that going to any of these places was not illegal. And in any case, I have not seen any Christian festivals that include gambling in the programme. Nor a god who describes himself as the gambling of the gamblers. Before you decide that this is Hindu-bashing, this is to just open your mind to this great religion which encompasses the whole universe. If you are an Indian, go learn a bit about our culture before talking such twaddle which a good primary education would have cured you of.
Casinos in GoaBy: august | 18-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Gambling has been always a losers game. Casino has been programmed digitally to make a profit through "your" losses. So deceive yourself as much as you like,'police commissioner',but leave the temple, church alone ,they have a superior God to pray and be fulfilled in spirit without being ripped off.
Visiting casinos is like going to temples: Goa top copBy: javid desai | 18-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward What's wrong with the cop's statement and who is anybody to ask questions as to where the cops were partying, are'nt cops humans or are the only bonded to the roads and cop stations?
casinoBy: joseph | 18-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward everybody has a right to go anywere what happen if he is police media just s
it's the sameBy: sp | 18-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward There isn't much difference going to a place of worship or a casino. A place of worship offers psychological comfort, so does a casino! And both places deal with a lot of money. Its all a matter of perspective, it is just that the first (place of worship) is socially acceptable while the other is not! The problem with socially accepted norms is that there is no universal standards, as such a respected custom in one society may be laughed at in another!.
