Volkswagen AG says it will launch a new small car _ the up! _ in Europe in December.
Europe’s biggest automaker said Sunday that the up! _ which will come in three versions with varying specifications _ will be ”one of the smallest four-seat cars.” It will be 11.6 feet (3.54 meters) long.
The car will be powered by a 1-liter (61-cubic-inch) gasoline engine. Volkswagen says a natural gas version will follow and there are ”definite plans” for a version with electric drive in 2013.
Volkswagen didn’t give prices for the new model or say when it would be launched outside Europe. It says the up! will come with an optional emergency braking function designed for city driving.
