A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Tuesday extended crime reporter Jigna Vora's judicial custody till January 3. Vora was remanded in judicial custody till December 20 by MCOCA judge S M Modak on December 9. The order came after public prosecutor Dilip Shah told the judge that the Crime Branch was not pressing for further police custody as her custodial interrogation was over.
Meanwhile, Vora's lawyer Jayesh Vithlani told the judge that he would not be pressing for an in-camera trial. Another application was filed by defence lawyer Nitin Sejpal before the court on Tuesday, seeking that the confessional statements given by three accused — Paulson Joseph, Deepak Sisodia and Arun Dake — be made available to the defence.
Mid-Day journalist J Dey was murdered by six persons on motorcycles in Powai in June. On November 25, Vora was arrested by the Crime Branch for allegedly abetting his murder.
