VVS Laxman top India’s batting averages. surprisingly, he is atop the bowling list too

  • VVS Laxman expectedly topped the batting averages and surprisingly head the bowling averages too for India in this Test series. Laxman who played five innings in three Test matches, scored 209 runs at an average of 209.00 with one century and one fifty. Laxman also headed the bowling averages in the series by taking one wicket for two runs in just one over.

    For Pakistan Misbah-ul-Haq scored 461 runs at 153.66 with two hundreds and one fifty in six innings of three Test matches to head batting honours while right arm medium pacer Yasir Arafat who took seven wickets at an average of 30.00 topped the bowling averages for the visitors.

    Man of the Series Sourav Ganguly who claimed the third spot behind Laxman and Irfan Pathan in batting averages for India, scored the highest number of runs in the series. The Prince of Kolkata, scored 534 runs at 89.00 with two hundreds and one fifty in six innings of three Test matches.

    Ganguly, who amassed 1000 runs in a calendar year — 1023 runs — (ave.63.93) for the first time in his career surpassing his previous best of 945 runs in 16 Tests in 2002. His three centuries and four fifties this year came in nine Tests.

    As many as 10 centuries were scored, six by Indian batsmen and four from Pakistan side. Ganguly and Misbah hit two century each while Younis Khan, Kamran Akmal, Wasim Jaffer Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman and Irfan Pathan scored one century each.
