A 16-year-old boy was shot at in a scuffle which broke out in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi, on Tuesday night. Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
According to police, Vivek, a resident of Hastal village, was shot at in a fight over property. He was returning home when he got caught in the middle of the fight. "Vivek was rushed to DDU Hospital and his condition is now stable," V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West) said.
The four arrested have been identified as Laxmi Narayan, Som Dutt, Rajen Sharma and Devender Kartik, police said.
According to police, the fight began when a group of men led by Laxmi Narayan barged into a plot belonging to a man named Ram Kishan Yadav.
Police said Laxmi Narayan brought construction machinery along with him and claimed that the plot belonged to him.
Eyewitnesses told police that soon other villagers gathered at the spot and demanded that Laxmi Narayan leave immediately with his men.
"Besieged by the mob, Narayan took out his pistol and began firing in the air. One of the bullets hit Vivek who was passing by that area. He is a Class X student and has nothing to do with the fight. We have seized the pistol from Narayan," Renganathan said.
Police said they were also looking into whether the arrested men were habitual land grabbers. "A case has been registered and further investigation is on," a police officer said.
