With an eye on 2012 civic polls, sitting corporators of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are training guns on civic administration for neglecting the problems of their respective wards. Some of them are squarely blaming the civic staff for deliberately ignoring the civic issues of their wards despite raising the issue repeatedly.
Shiv Sena corporator Ankush Tidke said he has been complaining of stray dog menace in Paud Road area but the administration has failed to take action against it. It seems the civic administration is catching and releasing all the stray dogs in my electoral ward. The stray dogs have made the life of citizens miserable, he said.
Congress corporator Abhijeet Shivarkar said it was his first term as a corporator. I have been complaining about the menace of pigs in Wanowrie electoral ward from the start of the term. I am sorry to say that the civic administration has failed to act on my complaint, he said, adding, the large number of pigs are found in the area and there is a constant fear of accidents due to them.
PMC health chief R R Pardeshi said the civic staff has no problem in addressing the complaints but they are owned by local goons who threaten the civic staff against any action. The action against pigs can only be possible under police protection which is not available now, he said. However, this evoked strong reaction from Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal who directed the civic administration to hold meeting with senior police officers for seeking police force during action against pigs in the city.
Congress corporator Dattoba Sasane said there was no effort by administration to address the water woes in his electoral ward. We have to face public criticism for the failure of administration. There seems to be a desparate effort to create inconvenience to citizens before the civic polls so that there is adverse impact on our making it to the civic body, he added.
