For once they were not on the bag. Caddies from various golf clubs across the country stepped out of the background and into the spotlight — if only for a day — as the DLF Golf and Country Club hosted the annual All India Invitational Caddies Tournament on Monday. Wasim Khan of the Delhi Golf Club stood out with a two-under 70 to win the individual category by a margin of four strokes, while Santosh (74) emerged second on his home turf, pipping Mohd Sanjeeb of the Royal Calcutta Golf Club on back count.

Wasim’s card also played a crucial role in the team event, with the DGC side, which also included Vipin, Pradeep and Pravesh, winning the title with an aggregate of 318. The host club had to be content with the second spot with 323 while the Chandigah Golf Club took the third place with a total of 330.

The tournament, one of its kind, had started seven years ago as a local tournament for the caddies of Delhi and the NCR Golf Clubs but now sees clubs from around the country participating in it. This year teams came from as far as Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh and aspiring caddie golfers got a feel for the professional circuit amid fierce competition.
