The Gurgaon district administration has stepped up the installation of water meters for registered tubewells and borewells in the city. The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) had directed that all registered tubewells within the notified area should be fitted with water meters by April 9.
It had also directed that records of withdrawal of groundwater from the tubewells be maintained. After the installation of the water meters,the Deputy Commissioner should be informed of the same for the purpose of keeping a record.
Deputy commissioner P C Meena said,Tubewells of consumers violating the instructions will be sealed and strict action will be taken against the violator under the Environment Protection Act-1986. Owners of houses with rooftop areas measuring more than 100 sq m each have been instructed to have proper water drainage systems installed in the premises.
