  • Mian Nisqar Gul, the Minister for Prisons in NWFP, was hit by three bullets when the gunmen opened fire at his car in Darra Adam Khel area, senior provincial minister basher Ahmed Bilour said.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack but Bilour blamed militants for the ambush.

Meanwhile in Dera Ismail Khan, at least 20 people were injured when an unidentified attacker lobbed a grenade in a market on Thursday.

The attacker, who was on a motorcycle, entered Topawala Bazar and threw a grenade at people standing near a shop at around noon. A seven-year-old girl was among the injured.

Pakistan unleashed helicopter gunships and artillery to kill scores of Taliban fighters, officials said on Thursday, after opening a second front against militants near their stronghold in the Waziristan tribal region.

A military statement said on Thursday that during the last 24 hours 66 militants had been killed in fighting mostly in Bannu and South Waziristan, but also Swat.

attacks in pakBy: gopi thomas | 14-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Indian people and authorities should be vigilant. These crazy jehadists dont care about anything. They have, unfortunately, people like Madani, young muslim recruits from India, and certain politicians like Zyabuddin, Antulay, and the MArxist leaders in Kerala such as BAlakrishnan and Vijayan, in their company. India should be eternally vigilant; so many forces trying to split it apart. Chidambaram should be on top of this; also all IGs, police and army should be given training and gadgets, time for a revival of India who acres about the protection of its people. We just cannot afford another terrorism and go back to our oft repeated self congratulation "Mumbaites are resilient people"..it wont work this time.
Evil forcesBy: Kannan | 12-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Well said Karim. When Pak sponsored terrorists were attacking India, the western world refused to take note of it. Now the situation in Pak has totally changed and the same evil force that was nurtured by the evil Pak army and ISI is settling scores with its master. I have no regrets for them.
Failing PakBy: Hero Vaz | 12-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward There may be waves and waves of attacks across Pak but no sense will come into the Pakis to stop terrorism directed at India, make peace with India and take India's cooperation to stamp out terrorism in their own country. Pak will suffer till it becomes a complete failed state.
Warning to India.By: Karim | 12-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward If these pervert jihadis can destroy and destabilise the very nation that nurtured them (not surprisingsly- one reaps the crops one sows) like it's own son; they are a big threat and headache to anyone's home (or country) they migrate to or spread their philosophy. It is perhaps better to control them at their birthplace,or else they will create conditions for atomic destruction of Pakistan itself, and this should be known to any sane Pakistani or Indian or anyone else.
