WB: After poll debacle,CPM reviews ministers’ performance

State's ruling CPM asked party ministers to speed up unfinished work.

After the setback in recent civic polls and with assembly elections in West Bengal barely a year away, the state’s ruling CPI(M) on Saturday asked party ministers to speed up unfinished work.

“We are apprehensive that the opposition will stand in the way of the functioning of the government in the coming months. But they (party ministers) will have to perform and complete whatever is left unfinished,” CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose told reporters after a meeting with ministers and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

He said there was a problem of inter-departmental co-ordination which would have to be sorted out.

Service-oriented departments and those directly involved in the welfare of the common man, particularly health, panchayat and rural development came under scrutiny at the meeting.

A party state secretariat member said the meeting was called to understand what work was done by ministers in the first half of this year and where they were facing problems.

“This is because elections will soon be knocking on the door,” he said.
