The Calcutta High Court on Monday pulled up the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBSE) for not showing a student his answer scripts despite repeated requests.
Hearing a plea, Justice Dipankar Dutta asked the WBSE to show the answer scripts within 30 days and to reimburse the cost borne by the student, which should be realised from the officials who were responsible for the delay.
Surek Das, a student of Baisnabchak Maheshchandra HS School at Kolaghat who passed the secondary examination in 2012, secured between 70 and 80 per cent in history, geography, Bengali and English, but he had expected 90 per cent in these four subjects. So he approached the WBSE to see his answer scripts according to a Supreme Court order, but the answer scripts were not supplied. Surek then filed an RTI plea to see the answer script but was refused again. Following this he approached the appellate authority and then finally the Calcutta High Court. Today a counsel of the WBSE pleaded that the secondary examination started today, so officials were busy. Justice Dutta wonder why the WBSE could not supply the answer scripts in the past one year. The Calcutta High Court dismissed a public interest litigation that alleged that the vice-chancellor of Visva-Bharati University had used varsity funds to buy liquor for his own consumption. The PIL also challenged the appointment of Dr Sushanta Dutta Gupta, vice-chancellor of the central university, on several grounds. The court dismissed the petition saying it had no legal merit.
