We opposed it: PDP U-turn on shrine land cancellation

  • With the general elections in sight, the Peoples Democratic Party has done a U-turn on the stance it had taken during the nearly two-month-long agitation over the transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

“I had been saying that cancellation of the land order will cause disturbance in the state,” claimed PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at a public rally in Jammu.

Interestingly, the PDP patron’s change in posture on the issue comes even as it had pulled out of the Congress-led coalition Government, distancing itself from the Government order under which the land was transferred to the board.

Claiming PDP to be the party that talks about the interests of Jammu, Sayeed said the discrimination towards the region could be overcome through devolution of power as has been enshrined in the party’s self-rule document.
