While the Rail Budget was sweet and sour, the Union Budget is only sour, said SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party, which is extending support to the government, on Monday joined the opposition in ridiculing the General Budget, terming it as "sour", "trepid" and "unimpressive".

RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who had criticised the Rail Budget two days back despite his association with the ruling UPA, however, struck a conciliatory tone and described the Union budget as a "balanced" one.

SP, BJP, Left parties, JD(S) and BJD were critical of the budget even as the Congress hailed it.

"While the Rail Budget was sweet and sour, this budget is only sour," SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said while reacting to the Budget presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Parliament.

He particularly said farmers and rural areas have been neglected in the budget.

"I do not see any great message in the budget. It is timid, trepid and unimpressive," senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said.

He said he would have expected the government to list steps it was taking to fight global recession but the budget had nothing on it.

Sinha said the fiscal deficit has gone up and there was no boldness shown by the Finance Minister as focus on infrastructure projects like roads, airports is missing. JD(S) President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said there was nothing in the budget for the farmers.

"I am deeply hurt. The farmers and the farming sector have been ignored," Gowda said.

CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta described the budget as "inconsequential and insufficient" which "fails to address the economic challenges facing the nation".

BudgetBy: Ivan | 07-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Hey Shilpa I agree with all what you say. But and this is very imp to accept that all MPs in India have done is to increase their benefits or purses. India as a country has actually gone behind. Look at all that other nations which were just like smelly slums where they are today. eg Singapore etc. One has to agree that our MPs are nothing but bunch of rogue criminal ppl. Even if they want to improve and uplift India they wont as it will create problems for themselves.
shilpa is rightBy: guruji | 07-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Right said Shilpa. Its funny how people are so unappreciative about th freedom that they have got. Mr. Viv you will surely not want to get squashed under a tank in your so called rathayatras and anti minority vandalism parties. Do you? China can get away with all what it does does as it has a strong policy of suppressing everything that its rulers feel anti national. The fact that china is a permanent security council member also gives it the power to do whatever it wants to do within its boundaries. Don' forget that in china press is heavily censored which means the world knows only what china want the world to know about this.. officially they executed about 2000 people last year. Sorry dude you are making up an impression that is illinformed and unjustified.
Bugdet presentation is badBy: freddie (Indian) | 07-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Most of the Indian politican who are in power are having falls teeth. First there is no charm when you see them coming on stage. Most of them look like an idiot and money grabber. Those who presented the budget are not well prepared either they are not qualified to do the job or they have no clue what is in the budget. The presentation is so poor they themself feel sick of presenting the budget. I don't understand in what way India is going to be super power. I feel to become super power we will have to wait another century. The Minister comes with a brief case it looks so stupid to see that he is carrying important document to lok sabha. I would like to asked does anyone of the present ruling MP knows how to use a computer or a laptop. If they knew then he/she should be using a laptop to present the budge. What a shame for a country like India. Basically India people are actually living in a country like a prison without committing a crime.
