A staunch Congressman by upbringing, Ramesh Wanjale has emerged the new face of MNS as he registered the maiden win for the party from the city. He won from the Khadakwasla constituency. Wanjale, known for his weakness of wearing gold ornaments - he was seen sporting not less than two kg of the yellow metal on his body and proudly proclaiming the same to everyone, will now have to play a role in shaping the future of ‘sons-of-the-soil’ in the city.
“The win was expected and I have a great responsibility in the days to come,” he said while committing to implement the MNS policy of justice to the sons-of-the-soil. The MNS win in Khadakwasla is a big jolt to the NCP as the Assembly is part of the Baramati parliamentary constituency represented by Supriya Sule and earlier by NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
The only elected candidate of MNS in the city says there is much scope for the party to grow in the coming days. “I have already made my mark in the city. It is my service to the public that ensured victory in my very first attempt,” he said. Even though Wanjale managed to make it to Vidhan Bhavan as an MNS candidate, his wife continues to be Congress representative in the Pune Zilla Parishad. “I will continue to be a Congress representative,” said Harshada Wanjale. Referring to weakness for gold, he said, “I have earned this through hard work and there is no reason for me to hide anything. I pay my income tax regularly and have nothing in Swiss Bank account like some others, who may not wear gold like me. I am fond of gold ornaments and it has become my trademark.”
