In a fitness plan, 70 percent is diet and the rest is exercise," says Namita Jain, a lifestyle and weight management specialist, who has Chandigarh and Punjab on her fitness radar now. The fit and lovely Jain would know, having shaped up the likes of Deepika Padukone, Sania Nehwal, Raajeshwari, Perizaad Zorabian and Suniel Shetty.
Mumbai-based Jain, who has been part of the wellness space for the last 20 years, says, "As opposed to do-it-yourself plans, people want to get a professional, tried-and-tested approach." She was in the city for the launch of a fitness centre, Diet Mantra. She's been hired by this nationwide network of diet and wellness clinics to train its dieticians.
"Many in the city and its vicinity have been travelling to Delhi for diet counselling and holistic wellness plans. Hence, this tie-up," explains Aditi Srivastava, Director of Diet Mantra. They have 50 clinics planned across India, with four of those in the tricity.
So is Jain up for designing diet plans for the Punjabi palatte? "The mantra here is no dieting, just editing. So, the ghee and butter intake would have to be trimmed," says Jain, who is also the author of Jaldi Fit and The Four-Week Countdown Diet.
As it is, the residents of the city seem to have put fitness high up on their agenda. For instance, there is 34-year-old interior designer, Natasha Sethi, who lost 12 kilos in six months. For this, she did all it takes — getting into an exercise routine, hiring a dietician and changing her diet plans. "People now want to do it the right way," says Sethi. Having grappled with many crash diets and detox plans, Sethi finally sought the help of Panchkula-based fitness expert, Nupur Malhotra. Malhotra is among the handful of private dieticians that the city has seen in recent times, and is shaping up many, with a long waiting list at hand.
