Continuing their fine form from their previous win against Mumbai, Maharashtra on Sunday thrashed Baroda by eight wickets at the Poona Club grounds.

Baroda won the toss and elected to bat. Maharashtra struck early, with the first wicket falling at 16. Though Baroda played an attacking game, Maharashtra picked up wickets at regular intervals, refusing to allow them to settle down. For Baroda, S Gaekwad made 45 not out and Ketan Panchal got 33 runs to take the total to a respectable 152 for the loss of seven wickets. Even the hard-hitting Yusuf Pathan looked tame and lasted just nine balls for his 11 runs. For Maharashtra, Ganesh Gaikwad took three wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Maharashtra came out in swashbuckling fashion and were in no mood to let the chance of representing the West Zone in the knock out round slip from their grasp. The architect of Saturday’s win, Harshad Khadiwale, however fell early to a great delivery from Salim Veragi with the scoreboard reading 22. Rohan Bhosale and Rohit Motwani steadied the ship and took the score to 60, when Motwani fell to Yusuf Pathan.

Kedar Jadhav walked in and started hitting the bowlers to all ends of the park. His 31-ball onslaught featured five boundaries and three sixes. Maharashtra wrapped up the game in style in the last ball of the 17th over.

    Scores:
    Baroda:
    152 for 8 in 20 overs
    Maharashtra:154 for 2 in 17 overs
