In an attempt to puncture holes in Mamata Banerjee’s “aam admi” budget, the Left parties have questioned the implementation of projects announced in her two earlier budgets.

“There were so many announcements made in the Railway budgets of 2009 and 2010. What happened to them?” said Biman Bose,Chairman of state Left Front committee. “She says work has started, but nothing has started…. I fear this budget will meet the same fate as the previous budgets.”

Most of the projects announced by the Railway Minister have not been allocated funds from the Planning Commission,he said, which has raised questions about their viability. He was also critical of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for allowing Mamata to “mislead the people in this way that too inside Parliament”.

The only positive sign in the budget,he said, was that the passenger fares were not increased. The state Congress welcomed the budget. A press statement pointed it out as a reflection of the welfare agenda of UPA government.
