  • This position of privilege is not just the consequence of an electoral victory but the aura of invincibility that legislators now carry. Far be it for the writer, a mere novice, to extend any advice to our worthy and, in some cases, long-standing legislators, but a humble suggestion would be to return to some of the constitutional provisions and expectations, whilst concurrently acting, at least some of the time, as mere mortals.

The writer is a first time Congress MLA for Qila Raipur, Punjab jk@qilaraipur.org

What are legislators for, anywayBy: Pritam S Grewal | 15-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Jassi Khangura's 'What are legislators for, anyway?' tellingly reminds peoples' representatives of their expected role. The electors need to be aware of the duties of their representatives in legislature. This can only be possible when voters are politically educated and understand the value of their vote.
attack on legislatorBy: V. Ramanathan | 14-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward violence i do not condone; since we hve no right to recll an errant legislator this is the only manner in nwhich the common man voter can show his anger. legislator should attend ssembly and participate in activities there that they need not face anger of the common man.
