Gujarat Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi on Thursday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs statement on Anna Hazares fast-unto-death was nothing but a repeat of what Indira Gandhi had said when countrywide criticism was building up against her way back in 1975.
It is very unfortunate that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is accusing a person like Anna Hazare of launching his fast-unto-death at the instigation of some vested interests, Modi, who was addressing a BJP election rally at Golakganj town bordering Bangladesh in Assams Dhubri district said.
But the reality is that he (Singh) is only repeating what Indira Gandhi had said when a movement was building up against her corruption way back in 1975, Modi said.
Modi said Indira had tried to dismiss as false propaganda the movement against her corrupt government, which first began in Gujarat and then spread to the country.
But even as a person like Jayprakash Narayan took the movement from Gujarat to the whole country, the Allahabad High Court stepped in and scrapped her election to Lok Sabha, he said.
This time,as Anna Hazare has sounded the bugle against corruption and the Supreme Court is also coming into the picture,it is unfortunate that PM Singh has accused him (Hazare) of starting his fast at the instigation of others, Modi said.
Hitting out at the Congress regime at the Centre and in Assam, the Gujarat Chief Minister appealed to Assam voters to oust the party in order to rid the country and society of corruption. There is only one cure for corruption and other evils afflicting the country, and that is remove the Congress from power.
