  • ‘How Did I Let This Happen Again?’/ O Magazine

Oprah has reached the “dreaded 2-0-0” (lbs, 91 kg) again. As icebergs melted and landfills became mountains, the talk show host managed to keep the world riveted with her talent for expanding and contracting with the natural ease of a blowfish. Discussing the cultural phenomenon that is her weight, she confesses, “I’m mad at myself... I look at my thinner self and think, ‘How did I let this happen again?’” In the article, she details her thyroid problem and how she “fell off the wagon” while battling her “food addiction”. For those who haven’t been keeping track of her numerous shows on the subject, Oprah describes how her weight yo-yoed between 108 kg to 73 kg over the years.

Disaster in the Making/ The Globe and Mail

While passengers are treated like walking time bombs, ground crews rarely have to go under the scanner. And this is what makes airport security “as porous as Swiss cheese” in Canada, says Colin Kenny, former chair of the country’s Senate Committee on National Security and Defence. An investigative project by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has found that 58 organised crime groups operate within airports and that at least 298 current or former airport employees were involved in airport crimes. Asking Canadians to “think long and hard about the recent events in Mumbai”, Kenny warns that unless more stringent background checks are instituted, “some day, something is going to blow up at one of these airports… impending terrorist incidents aren’t about if, but when.”
