‘What’s Your Rashee’ has been styled as a rom-com featuring twelve Priyankas and one Hurman.

Cast: Priyanka Chopra, Hurman Baweja, Darshan Jariwala

    Director: Ashutosh Gowariker

    Rating: **

Yogesh Patel, currently of Chicago, flies into Mumbai to find himself a bride. He has ten days to check out twelve potential candidates, each representing a ‘raashee’: Makar or Meen? Capricorn or Pisces?

‘What’s Your Rashee’ has been styled as a rom-com featuring twelve Priyankas and one Hurman. Which, on the face of it, doesn’t sound like a bad deal. But Ashutosh Gowariker’s latest, which stretches close to four hours running time, starts feeling like bargain basement from the get go. It’s much too long, and, despite Priyanka’s valiant efforts, just not engaging enough.

Madhu Rye’s popular Gujarati novel ‘Kimball Ravenswood’ was turned into a delightful Doordarshan serial twenty years ago. Those who can cast back that long will recall the irresistible charms of Mr Yogi aka Y I Patel (played by the late Mohan Gokhale), as he met a new girl in each episode, and finally found his chosen one in a satisfyingly rousing finale. We were happy for him, but sad to see him go.

No such feelings assail us as we wait, and wait, for `What’s Your Raashee’ to end.

Hurman’s Yogesh is likeable enough, agreeing to get married post-haste to save his family from ruin even if he doesn’t particularly want to. He is gallant, refusing to make passes at gals who wear glasses, even when they throw themselves at him. But there’s no zest to him. Hurman is as flat as the film.

    ... contd.

There were many good bits, but the ending was disappointing.By: GK | 27-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward The film was not totally bad - it had plenty of meaningful moments. A particularly endearing aspect of Harman's character, Yogesh, is the considerate way in which he treats the girls. His kindness to Anjali, his attraction to Sanjana, his genuine respect and understanding for Hamsa and Pooja, and his rescue of Jhankana will move any woman who has had an arranged marriage. WheBut the film fails because the emotional connections he forms are not carried further into a satisfying ending. It was shocking that in the end,he did not choose his bride himself. In fact, he did not even recognise his bride, and figured out who she was by a process of elimination.
I completely agree with your feedback from the movie.By: Ghania | 28-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Yogesh's character was very charming and innocent, and I was quite fond of the way it was protrayed. However, if he wanted a love marriage, he should have chosen who he wanted to marry, not his uncle. The ending could have improved on that factor, but the movie wasn't exactly horrible. I agree with the points that you have pointed out there.

Knew it, right from the beginingBy: Dheeraj | 26-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward I knew it from the first time I heard about this movie that it was a copy of that TV serial. Harman Vs YI Patel (Mohan Gokhle) is like Bangladesh Vs Australia....Australia is way too good.
