Everybody who thought women and wheels spell danger,should have there at the DLF Place Mall,Saket,on Friday when 50 women set off on a 200km drive to Agra. The purpose of the Womens Car Rally 2009 was to raise awareness about breast cancer. It is important that women become aware about the seriousness of the disease. It is the second largest killer of women in India, said Dr Ramesh Sarin,founder chairperson of the Forum for Breast Cancer Protection,organisers of the car rally. The proceeds from the rally will be used for awareness programmes about breast cancer. Enthusiasm was high among the drivers,many of them accompanied by spouses and friends.
The 2nd TSD (Time,Speed,Distance) based rally was supervised by a team of professional rally drivers. Before the flag off,the forum,which has several well-known oncologists as members,also launched a 13-minute documentary on breast cancer awareness. Timely detection and prevention is the driving motive behind this film, added Sarin,a Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology,Apollo Hospitals.
