BJP on Wednesday questioned the “absence” of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul from the country and alleged the government and Congress were speaking in different voices and there was a “complete lack of leadership”.
“There is a complete lack of leadership in the government and Congress. There are very clear signs of divisions being seen between the government and the ruling party,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
She charged that while one methodology is adopted when several ministers were sent to receive Ramdev at the airport and to talk to him, another comes on display when a clampdown ordered on the yoga guru’s supporters at Ramlila Maidan.
Another Congress leader speaks against sending ministers to the airport to receive Ramdev.
“Where is Congress on this? I am tempted to ask where are the leaders? And whose line is being taken by Congress Why is the Congress President silent on these matters? We have not heard Sonia Gandhi’s views on the Ramdev issue. We do not know whether she supports Congress in the Sandesh write-up,” Sitharaman said.
She was referring to the Congress mouthpiece criticising the police crackdown on Ramdev’s supporters.
“We charge that Congress is purposely giving a very misleading picture. One attacks, another justifies…,” she said, adding Congress is speaking in many voices.
BJP also sought to know the whereabouts of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul who have reportedly gone to Europe.
“I understand that there is a Chief Information Commissioner’s request to PMO asking for details of the travel schedule of the Congress President and General Secretary (Rahul). We are certainly interested in knowing where the Congress President is when so many questions need her attention and a response from her?” Sitharaman said.
She also asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to end his “conspiracy of silence” and make known the official views of his government as well as that of Congress on several current issues.
