Whistle Stop: Director’s Dream

Dreams of epic proportions need equally strong support to materialise. Resul Pookutty's dream directorial project has been seeking Amitabh Bachchan's nod to take shape. "Bachchanji wants another narration before giving his nod. Once he agrees, I am going to devote all my energy to it," says the celebrated sound engineer, who has earlier co-produced an indie movie ID. The film is based on a real-life person — a common man, who had an extraordinary life. It will be shot in Islamabad, Lahore and Varanasi. This project, he says, is not a mega-budget one but demands an epic scale.

Street style

In order to give her crime thriller set in Mumbai a touch of reality, director Reema Kagti chose to shoot most part of her film Talaash on location. It captures several locations of the Maximum City in an almost archival way, as Kagti feels that these stand the threat of demolition in future. "Some of the remaining chawls and mills in Parel have been filmed as the backdrop. It is a matter of time before these, too, will make way for malls and fancy office and residential complexes," says a member of the Talaash team. Other places include streets and locations across Central Mumbai, Charni Road, Grant Road and Colaba. "The unit had shortlisted 520 locations of which 47 were finally used," he adds.
