  • Led by costlier food prices, wholesale inflation rose to 1.34 per cent in October compared with 0.50 per cent in the previous month, as per the new monthly index introduced.

Wheat, rice, moong dal, tea, mutton, condiments and spices were among the commodities which saw prices soaring during the month.

Wheat became dearer by 2 per cent, rice by 3 per cent while moong prices increased by 7 per cent during October compared with the previous month.

The fuel and power category also rose by 0.1 per cent during October, mainly due to higher prices of furnace oil (3 per cent) and bitumin (1 per cent).

Fruits and vegetable became cheaper by 11 per cent and bajra by 3 per cent.

However, the prices of aviation turbine fuel declined by 8 per cent.
