Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference party on Friday said it had never opted for state's accession with either India or Pakistan and asked Islamabad to apologise for claiming Kashmir on communal ground.

"NC under the dynamic leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had never opted for State's accession with either of the two countries prior to and during 1947-48 political developments in the sub-continent," Senior party leader and MLA Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal said in a statement.

"Pakistan shall have to tender an apology to the people of Kashmir for the folly of claiming Kashmir on communal lines, for the 1947 tribal invasion on Kashmir and for not giving recognition to the pro-independence paradigm of National Conference leadership," he said.

Kamaal, uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, quoted his father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah from his interview given to London Observer in 1948.

In response to the establishment of UN Commission for India and Pakistan to play a role of mediator on Kashmir issue, Abdullah had said "the only viable option would be for J and K to have a neutral status vis-a-vis both India and Pakistan".

Kamaal said that NC while advocating for restoration of autonomous status to the state within Indian constitution has always said that any better solution acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir shall be a welcome step.

Pak must apologise for claiming Kashmir on communal ground: NCBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 09-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Look who is talking!!! It was his uncle Sheik Abdullah who wanted special status for Kashmir on communal basis and got it. The then union home minister, Sardar Patel had made all plans to integrate entire Kashmir including the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir with the help of the Indian Army under the leadership of Gen. Kariappa. It was Jawaharlal Nehru, who was instrumental in introducing article 370 to provide special status for the state to please Sheik Abdullah.
KickBy: Dinakar | 08-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Instead of kiking this gys they are in cabinet and instead of making reservation based on economic condition of people rather than caste which is outdated ........
Why is this Abdullah still in Union Cabinet after this anti-national statement?By: Dev | 07-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward And this guy Abdulla continue to be a union cabinet member of UPA Govt. after claiming thet he supports Kashmir independence from India..? What next Kasab, Dawood and Musharaf in UPA ministry? It may even happen if these congress crooks believe that they can increase their vote share by such acts. There seems to be no lower limit for their anti-national activity and greed for power! Tragedy moronic citizens involved in OBC-Sc-ST-FC driven caste politics are oblivious to this danger! Looks liek no hope for the future and developed India! Such dream over after Dr. Kalam's exit from Rastrapati Bhavan!
