And like the West Indian women's team has shown so far in the World Cup, this singular Caribbean team unity can move mountains, on the cricket field anyway.
One team, one people, one West Indies. It was a similar themed campaign that worked for Darren Sammy's men during their World T20 winning campaign last year in Sri Lanka. And so far, Merissa Aguilleira and her merry bunch have shown that it can work again by qualifying for their maiden World Cup final.
The team have taken special pains to maintain their togetherness in India. For starters, the girls decided to shun their phones outside their rooms. Whether it is while traveling in the team-bus or even during team dinners to ensure that they are chatting more with their colleagues. There has also been a conscious decision to avoid any regional cliques being formed. They have also vouched for collective discipline, from assembling well before their bus's scheduled departure time to keeping a track on each other's diets.
Even on the field, the West Indies have been propped up by their players putting on a united front though Stafaine Taylor and Deandra Dottin have hogged the limelight. Their journey to the final has been littered with all-round team efforts and crucial contributions from Shanel Daley's all-round efforts and Anisa Mohammed's spin tricks to Tremayne Smartt's new-ball antics. And thanks to Aguilleira & Co, the West Indies United flag has flapped quite buoyantly over the last three weeks.
