Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the murder of 57-year-old Nazar Singh in Phullanwal village allegedly by his wife and her paramour was a conspiracy.
While Nazar had shifted his house to Phullanwal village from his native village Burj Litt after he came to know about the illicit relations of his wife Paramjit Kaur with one Jagtar Singh, the lovers did not stop meeting and hatched a plot to eliminate Nazar.
The accused were arrested by the Sadar police yesterday.
Talking to Newsline, Mandeep Singh, SHO, Sadar Police Station, said, "Our investigations have revealed that the lovers had killed Nazar, who was a hindrance in their way. The victim had shifted his residence to Phullanwal village about seven months ago but Jagtar started meeting Paramjit at Phullanwal village too."
The SHO said preliminary investigations and interrogation of the arrested duo indicate that ever since Nazar shifted his residence to Phullanwal village, the lovers were planning to kill Nazar who was objecting to their affair.
Sources said Nazar Singh's elder brother Gurnam Singh has also told the police that about a couple of days before Nazar's murder, they both had gone to meet Jagtar Singh at the latter's Shehzad village and had asked him to not to meet Paramjit.
It may be mentioned here that Nazar Singh had died on July 18 and his body was found in a vacant plot in an area near their house in Anand Nagar colony in Phullanwal vilage on July 19. As there were no external injury marks on the body of the deceased, the police initially had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). But the family members of Nazar Singh had cried foul over his death and had pointed their finger towards his wife Paramjit. Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the deceased also revealed that Nazar had died due to strangulation.
