A day after a West Delhi businessman was found stabbed, his wife and her close friend were arrested on Friday for the murder.
The suspects are victim Jagmohan Singh’s wife Sumit Kaur, 28, and one Puneet, 31, her friend who killed Singh on Kaur’s directions, the police today said.
Singh, 32, was found dead late Wednesday night at his Rajouri garden house.
Today, after arresting Puneet, the police claimed that he had confessed to having committed the murder — Kaur had allegedly promised to pay him for it.
The police said Kaur had initially claimed that four assailants broke into the house around midnight and demanded Rs 4 lakh that they had reportedly loaned him. She claimed the assailants killed Singh after he refused to pay — they had gagged and tied her with ropes, Kaur said.
The police, though, found contradictions in her statement — they also found it improbable that the assailants unlocked five doors to reach Singh’s bedroom without inside help.
“Investigations led us to zero in on Puneet, who lives nearby (J-5/157, Rajouri Garden) and knew Kaur well,” an officer said. “He broke down on sustained interrogation and confessed that he had killed Singh.”
Puneet told the police that he came to know Kaur some five years ago and the two became close over the years after his divorce, the officer said. He had reportedly loaned Singh Rs 4 lakh and wanted to recover it through Kaur. Kaur allegedly promised to give Puneet Rs 5 lakh to kill her husband.
