He would have been 51 on Saturday. Michael Jackson fans across the world will unite in celebrating the day the way he would have loved it — with his music that drives them wild. In Delhi, too, malls, music bands and dancers have lined up a series of concerts to remember the icon.

The DLF Place mall in Saket is decking up for its grand show involving a 60-member dance troupe from Zenith Dance Company (picture above). A giant screen will roll MJ’s videos while the dancers on stage emulate the same moves live to tracks such as Smooth criminal, Billie Jean and Bad. “It’s a tribute concert so we wanted people to feel that they are watching their idol performing,” says Sooraj Katoch, choreographer of the show, who has roped in an MJ look-alike for a sequence. The dancers will be dressed in signature Jacko garb — black suit, white socks and hat — as they perform the famous moonwalk and roboting.

But, if you want to hear live bands, drop in for the Gone Too Soon concert at Siri Fort Auditorium on August 28. Three Delhi bands, Bandish, Aryans and Groove Adda, will play their respects to the King of Pop by recalling his hit tracks. “He was the world’s greatest entertainer, and one of the reasons I am a musician today. This concert means a lot to me personally,” says Chris Powell, drummer, Bandish, which will be belting out songs like Black or white. In their rendition of Heal the world, Powell has got 15 children to sing along with the band on stage. The five-piece outfit Groove Adda will play The earth song and Don’t blame it on the boogie man. Sandeep Tomar, director, The Address, which is organising the event, says, “We will also have a dance troupe and a MJ look-alike.”
