In a bid to dent the traditional Muslim vote bank of Samajwadi Party ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday announced a number of schemes, including setting up of an Arabic-Persian university in Lucknow.

"The government will establish an Arabic-Persion university in the state capital and we have allocated Rs 10 crore for the purpose. Besides, the number of madrassas on government grant list will also be increased from 360 to 460," Mayawati said addressing a national convention on the "Problems of Muslim Community: Reasons and Solutions" here.

She also announced grant of Rs two crore to Waqf Board, establishment of unani medicine directorate, increased income limit for scholarships to minority students from Rs 18,700 to Rs one lakh and Manyawar Kanshiram employment scheme.

The BSP chief also offered to set up a coaching institute for civil service aspirants from minority community and allocated Rs four crore for the purpose.

Mayawati said, besides filling up of vacancies of Urdu teachers, the government would make arrangement of Urdu teaching in 964 primary and 1,212 higher secondary schools and open two new schools for girls.

The grant of Rs one crore for marriage of girls of minority community would be raised to Rs 12 crore. The government would file an SLP (special leave petition) in the Supreme Court to ensure opening up of a minority institution, plan for which was at halt after a high court order on Aug 24, 2006.

It seems that is the time when every one realizes that they are one third of the population. Only when the elections are close, there are special sops announced by the party in power and special promises made by other parties. It is these politicians who have never allowed Muslims to think themselves of Indians. If the politicians do only a fraction of what they have promised to the Muslims for the entire country, there will be no alienation and the country will move forward truly well integrated. Despite what all parties have claimed there contribution in upliftment of Muslims, the ground reality is that they are still backward, and exploited by politicians of all colors. The politicians have a vested interest to keep Muslims and other backwards just that. They can easily show the garden path to a have not and ensure their own well being.

Muslims in India do not need a persian or a Arabic University and vote bank politics. The best for Muslims in India is to be independently think what is best for them, and join or strengthen the political stream which would finally considers them as Indians. Perhaps it is honestly better to strengthen BJP itself, because a known enemy is better than a unknown fools. All the parties have been fooling us one way or the other, BJP considers Muslims as enemies of the nation, enenmies of Hindus(which is just not true) just b'coz a handfull of Muslims names and faces (AS THEY HAVE PRESUMED CRIMINALS AND MURDERERS TO BE)have been screened on the TV Screens all over. Cinflicts of interests, thoughts, Ideas and Ideologies, are the healthy features of any society, unfortunately our politicians give a communal colour to all this.

Such acts will only fuel the communal divide and bring in Talibanic line of thinking. This is not good for anybody, neither the Indian muslims nor other religions.
