With new courses and facilities,colleges in Panchkula may now see better response

With the introduction of new courses and latest facilities,Panchkula colleges are all set to welcome freshers in the new academic session.

With the introduction of new courses and latest facilities,Panchkula colleges are all set to welcome freshers in the new academic session. The last date for submission of forms is June 30 and the colleges are expecting an overwhelming response.

R C Goyal,principal of Government College,Sector 1,Panchkula,said,“We are offering certain new courses like MA in psychology,political science,English and history,MCom and a few post graduation courses this time. Due to the latest additions,the sale of prospectus has exceeded our expectations.”

He further added,“This year,students are opting more for courses like Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA),Post Graduation Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA),MCom and MA English. In all these courses,we have received applications thrice the number of available seats. Nearly 200 applications have been against 60 seats in the PGDCA course till now.”

The principal added that the college would be soon introducing a course in Bachelor of Physical Education and approval is awaited.

Veena Kumari,a student from Burj Gotian village,Pinjore,said,“I wanted to pursue MCom but the only concern for my parents was that the Chandigarh Girls’ College was too far and the course was not offered in any Panchkula college. But the problem has been solved with the course available at GC-1.”

Talking to Newsline ,R H Sanga,principal of Government College for Girls,Sector 14,Panchkula,said,“Now,we can offer students the same facilities as Chandigarh colleges. To cater to the needs of outstation students,we have started a hostel too. The facility could not be launched last year as only four to five students were interested. But this time the demand has gone up.”

He added,“Students have opted for commerce courses this time. Those who don’t get admission in Chandigarh colleges due to reservation issues and students from rural areas,for who Chandigarh is a bit far off,apply in huge numbers.”

Apart from offering courses like BA,BCom,BCA and BBA,the Sector-14 college will soon be starting a course in Bachelor of Tourism Management.
