With the onset of winter season and the rise in demand for domestic use, there is a shortage of LPG in the state. The demand shot up before Diwali and there has been a shortfall ever since. The delivery of cylinders to consumers has been witnessing a delay of 5-7 days across the state.
Talking to The Indian Express, Harsimranjeet Kaur, president of All India LPG Distributor Federation, said, “The use of gas geysers has increased, thus increasing the demand and causing delay. The supply from the oil companies, however, is normal with an exception of Hindustan Petroleum.” Different oil companies cater to more than 40 lakh consumers of LPG in the state, she added.
Senior vice-president of All India LPG Distributor Federation(North West Region) Navin Talwar said, “Another reason for shortage is the ongoing season of weddings where LPG for domestic use is often used for commercial purposes. The situation, however, is under control at present.”
Rakesh Bhaskar, District Food and Civil Supply officer, Ludhiana, said,”Our staff is busy in paddy procurement. But if there is any complaint regarding use of domestic cylinder for commercial purposes, I will depute my staff to check it. We will also conduct random checks at various places.”
