Thirty-year-old Saki Naka resident Manoj Bhagat, who was shot by Rahul Raj aboard a BEST bus last month, is likely to be discharged in a couple of days owing to his stable condition, said the doctors at the Rajawadi Hospital on Monday.
According to head of the Orthopedic Department Dr Deepak Govekar and Dr Prasanna Biswas who are handling the case, the operation on Bhagat’s thigh was successful and he might be discharged in the next couple of days. “But he is not likely to start walking immediately. He needs to rest at least for a month without exerting any pressure on his leg,” said Dr Biswas.
Bhagat’s thigh bone was fractured due to the bullet injury and the doctors had operated upon him a fortnight later. “The operation involved inserting a proximal femoral nail between the cracked bones and hence it is imperative that the fracture heals before he exerts pressure on his leg. He is presently undergoing physiotherapy sessions to keep his leg and calf muscles active while his fracture heals,” said Dr Biswas. “While Bhagat’s fracture may take around six months to heal, it may take a year or two before the nail is removed,” he added.
Besides the leg injury, Bhagat had also been treated for the injuries around his neck that were caused by the metal chain that Rahul Raj had tied around his neck.
Meanwhile, Bhagat’s family is ecstatic about his impending homecoming. “The doctors have said that they may discharge him in a couple of days. To our relief, he is recovering steadily and is eager to come back home,” said Bhagat’s mother Indumati.
