Woman,3 children die in fire

A woman and her three children were burnt to death at Basanti in North 24-Parganas early today.

According to the police,Bharati Sardar (30) was sleeping with her children in their mud hut,when the fire broke out last night. Bharati and her two children – eight-year-old Kabita (8) and three-month-old Dulal – died on the spot. Neighbours rescued Kanika from the hut and admitted her in the Canning Hospital. But,she too succumbed later.

The police said that the villagers sleep with kerosene lamps lit in their rooms and the fire broke out from the lamp. They think that initially Bharati did not notice the fire,which spread gradually.
