A 34-year-old woman from Grant Road has alleged that she was raped by her uncle in 2001, and also by her cousin, after which she was forced into prostitution and repeatedly raped till 2009.
The woman who got married a year ago and who is pregnant, recently confided in her husband after which they decided to register a complaint, police said on Saturday.
The police have booked her uncle, cousin and several others in the case. DB Marg police said the complaint was registered by the woman on Friday.
The police said that the woman alleged that her uncle Satish Kondekar (45) raped her in 2001 in his Grant Road residence, after which her cousin Rakesh Kadav also raped her.
Her complaint states that she was subsequently forced into prostitution and was made to have intercourse with several people till 2009, when she managed to break free.
"The victim got married a year ago, and recently told her husband about what had happened. The couple then came to the police station and we recorded the victim's statement, after which a complaint was registered under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act against Kondekar and Kadav. Three others, who are supposed to have helped the duo force the victim into prostitution in Gujarat and Bangalore have also been booked and we are trying to trace them with the help of police there," said Senior Inspector Ajit Surve, DB Marg police station.
The police have subjected the victim to medical tests and are awaiting reports. The victim has still not spoken about why she waited for so many years before approaching the police.
DCP (Zone II) Nisar Tamboli said, "Our priority is to register the case and arrest the accused. The victim may have her own reasons for not seeking help earlier and she can talk about them in court later."
