Undeterred by the threats from her family for marrying a youth from Chhattisgarh, Komal Kadel (22) on Monday appeared before the High Court to sign the bail petition of her husband, who was arrested by West Bengal Police in the first week of August on the basis of a complaint lodged by her family.

After filing the bail petition, Komal said she wanted to live with her husband and alleged that her parents will kill her if they got her custody. Six years after she met Sagar Srivas in Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Komal, the daughter of a diamond merchant in Kolkata's Lake Town area, decided to marry him in June this year.

She travelled to Raipur and both entered into a wedlock on June 22. After Komal informed her parents that she had got married, her parents allegedly threatened her of dire consequences. Her counsel, Mohd Aammarzaki, said that her parents threatened to kill her in order to "save the family's honour".

On June 27, acting on a complaint of abduction. West Bengal Police reached Raipur and arrested the couple on August 2. While, West Bengal Police obtained a transit remand of Sagar and brought him to Kolkata, the court handed over the custody of Komal to her in laws.

After Sagar's bail plea was rejected by a local court in Salt Lake, Komal decided to move High Court to secure her husband's release.

The case is likely to come up for hearing next week.
