Savita lured the boy when his mother was away by offering him sweets. She then took him to Delhi, where she began living with her boyfriend, police said
A woman and her boyfriend were arrested from Shankar Vihar in New Delhi on Wednesday, allegedly for kidnapping a minor boy from Batala in Punjab. They were identified as Savita (45) and Ajay (28).
The incident was reported from Punjab on Monday after the boy's mother told police that her son was missing.
In her complaint, the mother said she had gone to pay her rent and found her son missing after returning home. She later found out that her neighbour Savita had packed her bags and left, police said. "Her elder son told her that Savita had taken the boy with her on the pretext of buying him sweets. The mother informed local police and a case was registered," DCP (South Delhi) Chhaya Sharma said.
"We got a tip-off that the woman was staying in Shankar Vihar," police said. "We searched several houses and finally apprehended Savita and Ajay and rescued the boy," Sharma said.
On questioning, Savita, who is allegedly involved in a flesh trade racket, told police that she kidnapped the child to avoid being stopped at police check-posts.
"She used to live in a rented house in Batala. Within hours, she befriended the boy and his family. Once she sensed an opportunity, she kidnapped the child. She took the boy to Delhi by bus and began living in a rented accommodation with her boyfriend," DCP Sharma said.
