The police have booked the husband and the brother-in-law of a woman, who died under mysterious cicumstances, under dowry charges. Tilak Nagar police are investigating the cause of death as there was no injury marks on 36-year-old Anila Chheda’s body. There were no indications that se had committed suicide either.
Chheda stayed with her husband, one-year-old daughter and her in-laws at Amar Mahal in Chembur. Around 4 pm on Sunday, Chheda’s in-laws called up her brother Narendra Dhanaji to inform Chheda was not keeping well and was in Rane Hospital.
When the victim’s family reached the hospital they did not find her. “After a search, the family learnt that Anila was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital. On reaching the hospital, the family found her body,” said an officer from the Tilak Nagar police station.
The post-mortem was conducted at JJ Hospital but the cause of death was not known. “There were no injury marks or signs of struggle. She was not even suffering from any ailment. We suspect it might be a case of heart attack,” said police inspector Siddharth Kasbe of Tilak Nagar police station.
Chheda’s family claimed that her in-laws had been mentally torturing her for dowry. Six months ago, when Chheda came to visit her family, she refused to return to her husband’s house complaining that the in-laws had been harassing her, Kasbe added.
