A 25-year-old woman died at Deep Nursing Home in Model Town, after she reportedly collapsed in the hospital bathroom,on Friday morning. She had given birth to a baby girl two days ago.
Neha was married to Vineet Arora two years ago and was being harassed for dowry, her parents claimed.
Nehas father Ramesh Mago,a resident of New Professor Colony at Barewal Road, alleged that she was constantly being pressurised by her in-laws with demands for money to run their Focal Point factory.
The police have booked the deceaseds husband Vineet Arora,brother-in-law Puneet Arora,father-in-law Jaipal Arora and mother-in-law Raj Rani on charges of dowry harassment.
I bought them a Maruti Swift, but they started asking for a bigger car. A few days ago,the family demanded Rs 5 lakh and threatened my daughter, said Mago.
It was also alleged that Nehas in-laws had suffered huge losses in the share market and were making demands from her parents to make up for the loss. Also, they were not happy over the birth of a girl child as they had been misbehaving with us ever since, said Mago. Angry relatives of the deceased broke the windows of Aroras house opposite the Bharat Nagar post office and camped outside for most part of the day. The accused, however, fled sensing things may go out of hand.
A large number of people, meanwhile, gathered outside Magos house to offer condolences. BJP state president Professor Rajinder Bhandari, too, paid a visit.
While Puneet was arrested by the police later, other members of his family were still at large till the filing of the report.
We have registered an FIR against the accused members of the family based on the statements of the girls parents. Her husbands family members are still at large, said DSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, adding that the postmortem report was awaited.
Neha was absolutely fine last night
The news of Neha Aroras death due to a sudden collapse in the bathroom of Deep Nursing Home on Friday morning,as claimed by her in-laws,not only came as a shock for her mother who had attended to her till Thursday night, but her gynaecologist too failed to point towards any medical complication to be the cause behind her death. Amid several unanswered questions, doctors and nurses of the hospital said Neha was recovering well and did not have any post-delivery complications. One member of our family or the other was always with Neha over the last two days and it was only last night that we left her under the care of her in-laws, her father Ramesh Mago said. Gynaecologist Dr Aruna Dhar, who was handling Nehas case, said: She had given birth to a baby girl after a caesarean operation two days ago and was recovering well. She was absolutely fine when I last attended to her around 8.30 last evening. At 6 am,her blood pressure and temperature was checked by a nurse, which was recorded as normal. Neha did not suffer from any complication whatsoever. She added that it was difficult to say what made her collapse in the bathroom following which she died. Dr Dhar, however, pointed out that there was no medical reason known to her which might have led to Nehas sudden collapse and death. Sameer Kumar Sharma
